I have created a view "MyPics"
Within this view I created a new display page called "Parade"

The default MyPics view shows nodes that have "float" in the taxonomoy
The view "Parade" shows nodes that have "Parade" in the taxonomoy

In my parent node I have inserted the view using the syntax [view:MyPics=Parade]

When the view is displayed it shows only the 'default' view for MyPics instead of the parade pictures.

I'm new to views and Insert_views. Do I have incorrect syntax or settings?

yes, the view display name must be wrong. it should be something like block_1, page_1 or similar.
