I'm a newbie to Drupal, but am looking for a host for a Drupal site that needs scalability. I'm currently using Bluehost, but thinking dedicated server or vps is probably best long-term solution. Rackspace offers following dedicated (managed) server specs:

1xDual-Core AMD Opteron
4GB RAM (DDR2)
2x250GB, 7.2K, SATA (RAID1)
2TB Bandwidth

$419/month

Is this enough to run multiple drupal sites (for political campaigns/non-profits) with each site getting anywhere from 200-2000 hits per day?

How does Rackspace stack up to other hosting solutions?

I am looking for managed/not-shared hosting.

The dedicated server you mention in above from Rackspace is good enough to run multiple sites. 200-300 hits/per day is not a large number.

And for $419/month, this is a little bit expensive. Today, I just finished the migration of my Drupal site to a dediated server from hostgator, this works very good and just cost me $219/month. In terms of the configuration of the server, it's close to the one you mention in above.

The site is webhostingclue.com, you can have a visit of my site to see the performance. This site have close to 500 unique ips hit per day. And I have 3 sites on the server already.

Thanks. Do you think it would still perform well if there were a couple thousand hits on each of the 3 sites? Does hostgator offer full support and managed hosting at that price?

it depends on what types of sites you have built and the modules you use, but in general, I don't see any problem to have this server to support more than 10000 hits per day.

And this server is a full managed server, the full support is included. This is part of reason I choose it, its pretty headache when choosing a support level when purchasing from other vendors especially I feel I know how to maintain a server but just need support for some occasional cases.
