Hi Shannon, I have built a version of Nitobe with adjustable sidebars and skinr module support.
The major hacking takes place in nitobe_set_layout, + adding the theme settings and some new CSS and stuff to support skinr in nitobe_preprocess_block.
I've attached a patch but if you want a complete theme I can add that also.
Kudos goes to Ben from http://www.scienceblog.com who sponsored the work. If you're interseted in using this for Nitobe I'd be more than happy to help out where-ever needed, I'm sure you have your own ideas how this might work better and perhaps allow for the easier addition of more columns.
Cheers, excellent theme Shannon, really easy to work with and some great thought gone into it.

smazsyr commentedI'd love to see Nitobe become a subtheme of Adaptive Theme. And I think that's not as far-fetched as it sounds, given the work you've done on this.

Anonymous (not verified) commentedAdding flexible column widths is a major change to the theme both at the code and design level. This change would be better suited as a fork of the theme.
