Hi Tom - I am a drupal newbie as well, and took pity on you cause no one will answer my questions either!!

At least I can help with yours - while creating new content, you have to go to the 'publishing options' and select 'promote to front page' to make your new story/page or whatever go to the home page.

Then to attach it to a specific menu item you can either do it while you create the new content under the menu tab, or you just go to administer >> Menu>> and put in a new menu item there.

cheers - Renaee.

To make it 'stick' to the top of the page, you can use the 'sticky' option as well. :)

(this assumes you haven't changed the default front page.)

Being new to drupal I have started with 4.7 - so I am not sure of the differences. However i think I do remember reading that the feature of attaching the newly created content to the menu item while you create the content is new to 4.7 - so you probably can't do it with your version.

You should still be able to do it under the menu item in administer.

You create a new 'MENU' then you add a new 'MENU ITEM' - when you create the menu items, this is where you link the menu item to your node number, or if you use clean urls to your node name like 'aboutus' or contactus etc.

Using this method you can only create a link to one content type, ie one story or one page or one image. But if you use taxonomy, then you can link it to several peices of content by putting in taxonomy/term/1 for example, and that link will go to all the content types tagged with term 1 from that catergory .

Remember the menu is the name that will appear at the top of your block, like you have the name 'navigate' at the top of your admin area before you log in, while the menu item is the actual links to content.

Once you create a menu and menu item you then have to go to BLOCKS to enable it, and decide on which part of the site you want it to sit (right, left or at the top as a primary or secondary link)

hope this helps :) renaee.

That is a nice, clear explanation. :)

If you are using 4.6, you need to install the menu_otf module to get the ability to link pages to specific menu items as you are creating them.

Menu_otf made it into core 4.7 so it is automatic in 4.7

Thanks for this - as with all my Drupal problems, it's down to some kind of schoolboy error that I made eary on. OF COURSE - I can attach news to menu items as I author them!"!!!!!!
