Once someone deletes a previous index and tries creating a new one with the same path as the one deleted, they get this error:

Path is already used by a menu link

So, after someone deletes an Index, the path used (or the menu item used) doesn't get deleted as well. I understand that this might be desired behavior, but there is no option to replace that path and go on.

How do I remedy this in order to get a new index with the path of a previously deleted index?

Can you please make it an option to confirm and replace already existing menu links?

I don't know if this is related in any way, but since the warning speaks of a path used by a menu link I looked at my navigation menu after deleting some indexes and tried creating new ones with the same paths. There (in the navigation menu edit page) I see a lot of 'orphan' menu items without a title that I have no option of deleting anyhow. This is weird, since the title of menu items is a required field. Does this help at all?

The cause of the bug was that the menu wasn't rebuilt after indexes were deleted. This caused the menu link to be there until another menu rebuild, caused by enabling another module, for instance.

Fixed and committed.
