Regarding this process of changing the MySql password in Terminal, I had exactly the same problem as Sandar and others. So my question is it really 100% necessary to change this password or will it get me into trouble later on?
Thanks in advance!

A link to what 'Sandar and others' are talking about would be helpful.

I am not sure what to tell you because I have never used mamp. I use xampp and it installs without any passwords so it is recommended to go in and give root passwords (root by default) for all systems when you begin using it. If you have not established a password for root you probably need to.

As a rule if you have a secure root password that nobody else knows then it is not necessary to change it. If you are in doubt then it should be changed.

I am not sure why they were having problems changing their password.
