Anonymous (not verified) commentedFor privileged users, a shortcut bar is displayed near the top of the page.
Shortcuts can f.ex. help users as content creators and editors to identify actions they can take.
You can add and remove links to the shortcut bar. You can also create multiple shortcut bars. For example, you may want to have one shortcut bar that only displays a certain set of shortcuts and another shortcut bar that displays another set. Only one of your shortcut bars can be displayed at one time. min
There is only one shortcut menu displayed at a time for each user. Users can change which shortcut menu they want to use via their site account page (/user). Normally a user would only have access to his or her own shortcuts bars, but it is possible to enable a privilege that would allow a user to choose any shortcut bar.
A shortcut block can be created and assigned to a region on the site via the site's block configuration page.
You can disable the shortcut feature completely.
This page is not done.
-- I am not sure if a use case explanation is needed, but I would have welcomed one when I first read about it. Hopefully I understand the possible purposes for shortcuts right.

arianek commentedmade a bunch of edits to put some more instructions about how to use shortcuts and fit it to the style that http://drupal.org/handbook/modules/field-ui is using: http://drupal.org/handbook/modules/shortcut
