I was so excited to learn about Drupal. I have experience with HTML and CSS and some with PHP. I volunteered to build a Web site for my high school class for our reunion this coming year. We'd like the site to

(1) have profiles that classmates could edit after the LOGIN and upload a profile photo to go with the high school yearbook photo I upload. They can answer a series of questions, and the answers become part of the profile. Typical reunion kind of stuff.

(1a) have a way to leave comments on classmates' profiles or send a message/wink to classmates using e-mail included in profile

(2) have a means to upload photographs to albums of high school memories, reunion events, etc.

(3) have a means to post informationa about reunion events with PayPal capability.

It seems like a pretty simple concept, but I don't have experience with online databases (although I am very familiar with regular databases). I want to get something up as soon as possible, so I was excited to find Drupal, hoping it may be a way to develop the site with the flexibility I want in as short of time as possible.

Is Drupal a good option for me? Can you customize the look (e.g., colors, graphics, etc.)?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

1) you can enable core profile.module to add new fields and upload profile photos
1a) you can find various modules for this in the download section, right now i can think of guestbook.module
2) Search for 'gallery' in modules download section, you will find many of them
3) events.module will be able to help you out here

Of course Drupal can do this, but is think its a bit like killing a fly with a bazooka.

If you just want a simple site, there are easyer systems to use. maybe wordpress? check out opensourcecms.com

I am also researching the idea of using Drupal for my class reunion. I'd be interested in swapping ideas and experiences. I thihk Drupal is a great choice because of the granular permissions and ability to customize data and workflow.

I've thought about a Drupal group that could steer an install profile or some features specific to what is needed for a class reunion.

We are trying out a turnkey solution from www.classcreator.com and it looks like we'll be going that route. This will save me some work but eliminate the fun! classcreator.com has a referral program so if anyone ends up using them, contact me and I'll give you my link. ;)
