I've installed both the captcha and the textimage modules. Oddly, the captcha doesn't seem to work -- it never appears in the access control permissions. (module is enabled and have set it for comments under settings/captcha.)

Instead I am trying to use the textimage for the image verification. When I go to post a comment it appears, only, oddly, the text I enter to match the picture never matches teh first time around. I get the error:

"The image verification code you entered is incorrect."

I really am entering it correctly though and the second time around it works, but only in Firefox it app.

When I try in IE it never works. what am i missing ????

isn#t that always the case!

I guess I just need to ctrl+f5 - regular reloads weren't doing the trick!

though, this still doesn't answer why there is no Captcha in the access control.

I wonder if users are going to have this propblem. I always forget about ctrl+F5 - im sure my users won't even know about it. Does seem to be particularily painful with Drupal though doesn't it. Even with cache off and cleared in browser, pages don't ever seem to reload correctly. ~Can't even log out half the time...

so, I got home last night and thought i'd try this mod on my home ocmputer to make sure it was still working.

it wasn't.

I think the problem is that the image wasn't displaying all the letters that captcha/textimage was creating . Playing with the settings in settings/textimage means that this now works 95% of the time. Its worth noting that the last setting "Image Margin: Set a distance between the Captcha letters and the edges of the image" actually seems to be setting the distance between letters rather than between the "word" and the border of the box.

I'm getting the same problem as sparkyUK, the image appear in Firefox but not IE.

Found the solution

administer > access control > textimage module > access textimages

check both "anonymous user" & "authenticated user"

Images start showing in IE after I done the above.

yes - this enables the creation of the textimage,
but I get an invalid image

Firefox says
"image cannot be displayed because it contains errors"

doing a view-source it looks like it could be png image

‰PNG
......lots of gibberih binary stuff following....

any ideas?

I also filed a bug for this in http://drupal.org/node/79984
