Removing default fields when creating custom content types - how do I do it?

I am sure this is a common question but how can I remove these items when creating a custom content type? I want users to only see very basic controls for data entry that I create

Menu settings
Parent item:
Revision information
URL path settings
File attachments
Comment settings
Authoring information
Publishing options
