Native due date

I would like a native due date field for issues. I installed Comment CCK + Date, but the field was clunky and was not recorded as a status change, like the other fields.

I think this field could be toggled with a setting, stored simply as a datetime and shouldn't require the cck/comment_cck/date modules. Some basic Views integration would also be nice.

I may end up developing this for my company's internal usage, so I'm putting it out here in case there is interest.
