Weight selection changes the created date for the node

When selecting a weight for a node, after clicking submit on the form, the node created date changes to the current (now) date and the weight does not work. The node goes to the top of the list as it would based on created date, but the weight is like it's non existant.

Example)
I have two nodes that are 5 and 6 on the list

I change Node 5 to have weight (-19), click submit. It moves to the #1 position on the list, shows weight (-19), and the created date changes to now (ie..Jan 8, 2010 9:10pm).

I change Node 6 to have weight (+19), click submit. It moves to the #1 position on the list, shows weight (+19), and the created date changes to now(ie..Jan 8, 2010 9:11pm). Node 5 is now in the #2 position.

I've also tested the same scenario and changed Node 5 to weight (+19), and Node 6 to weight (-19), with the same results.
