Hey everyone. Quick question for you regarding cloud hosting. I have been using Cloud Servers to host a couple large web applications for the past year or so, and was thinking about moving 3-4 Drupal 6 sites I have into a Cloud hosting environment. I am very experienced with the server end of Cloud hosting, but have taken the easy way out up until now and hosted our Drupal sites with a virtual private server at 1and1.

Since our sites are very low traffic, and not very media intense it really doesn't make sense to throw them into the cloud, but I was wondering if maybe a few people out there might be interested in getting involved and putting our sites together on one nice cloud server? We are a small technology company located in Texas, and our expertise is Business Software Products, so this would not be just some guy wanting to share a hosting arrangement. We would need to discuss the entire project in detail, and assign responsibilities among the group we put together. Since we are not claiming to be Drupal experts it would be nice to have someone who knows Drupal in and out to help.

Some of the things to consider:

1. One Cloud server would only have one IP address, and therefore all sites would need to share this IP. If you are in a shared hosting environment you may well be sharing an IP address with hundreds of others all ready.

2. Bandwidth and the server is a little more expensive in a Cloud environment, but the benefits of having full control of the server, and a very fast pipe far outweigh a little higher cost. (If we get the right group together the cost might actually be lower than the price we are paying already)

3. There would need to be cooperation amongst the group to ensure we all agree with major configurations made to the server. (This shouldn't be difficult since the requirements for Drupal are pretty straight forward.)

4. We would definitely have a backup and recovery plan in force, and would benefit by having a larger force that could help in case of an issue.

Well I really want to keep it vanilla for right now, so most details can be worked out during the planning phase if the project moves forward, so I will leave it at that. If there is a large amount of people interested in doing this we would be willing to manage this with our Project Management team in such a way to grow it into a large load balanced infrastructure that could really handle anything we throw at it.

Look forward to hearing from you.
