Suddenly, no display of content under 4.4rc

Out of the blue, my 4.4rc site stopped displaying content. THis occurred after my attempt to upgrade to the latest image and node_image modules, but unchecking those modules doesn't seem to roll me back to functionality.

The behavior I'm seeing is that the body of every post now consists of the single word, 'process'. If I edit ('administrate') the nodes the text is still in the edit box body, but it's not being displayed. If I try to submit new ones the same thing still happens. The rendering still displays taxonomy, submitter, etc - just the body is chopped, and to that same, single word.

I've rolled back all the recent changes. Any ideas of what else to try? I'm afraid I'm at a bit of a loss.
