Many mass functions happen based on roles, and it would be nice to email users based on roles through this. Could standard fields like "roles" and "active or blocked" be added as filters? Filtering by organic groups would be great also. I know much of this can be done with CiviCRM, but that is a pretty big solution for users that just want some simple features.

Agreed. One module fullfilling most of the needs would be far more efficient. There must be a way to somehow integrate the user plus module and the advanced user module, which would handle mass asigning of roles. Filtering users by role and account status, I would say is a must, especially for sites with large number of users.

I will most certainly look into this in the future and use it as a way to improve my php and mysql knowledge. At the moment, I'm a complete newby with php.

I've attached the MSA module if anyone wants to play with it. It works but has basic functionality if one does not have flexinode and tagnode installed with correct tagee relationships.

+1 to this.

About per-role filtering, it might help looking at the UserLists module (currently cvs, but working on 4.7 with a patch): a tiny mod that lists users by role on different tabs.

No coder here, but can help with testing of course!

cheers

Useful mod! It would be great if there was a default tab to also show users that have no roles assigned - this would make it easy to identify new users before roles are assigned to them.
