Hello all,
I am currently developing a site in Drupal 4.7 that I will need hosted somewhere. I currently use SimpleHost but they are not good at all because their customer support is non-existent. (SimpleHost = DO NOT USE)
I do like simple host for thier reported unlimited storage capacity and that is something that I want in my next hosting provider. I also need (hopefully) a great deal of bandwidth, access to a very full range of acceptable functionality - including chatrooms <--(Not allowed in simplehost), blogs, buddylists, etc...
Price is not an issue here so dont be coy... Im relying on your collective genius here to help me find the perfect hosting provider
Best Regards, Derek

Unlimited storage or
Unlimited storage or bandwidth doesn't exist. Even unrealistic claims of large amounts of bandwidth and disk space are something that you need to be very skeptical. The best way to know if a host is offering unrealistic amounts of resources is to compare common dedicated server offerings from different sources, the best example is a simplehost dedicated server, imagine that one of those servers is shared between many accounts (hundreds in shared plans and probably tens in virtual dedicated plans) and you'll realize that it's impossible to offer the amounts of bandwidth and disk space for all users.
If you are planning to use a lot of disk space and bandwidth, your best option is to go for a virtual or dedicated server, and you'll also want this server to be very powerful (cpu and memory) to cope with heavy loads (chatrooms). Some hosts like www.dwhs.net (the company hosting my sites) allows you to move from plan to plan as your site grows (shared->vps->dedicated) this is good because you don't waste money until you really need the next level resources, in the case of my hosting provider you can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time.
I see.
Thank you Capmex, I figured that there are limits to the storage space and I have read here and elsewhere to beware of hosting services claiming "unlimited" anything. I am currently looking into yahoo hosting but they have restrictions on how many email accounts I can have and I would really like members of my site to be able to have a mail account with the site as well as chat and a whole lot more.
I will take a look into www.dwhs.net and see what they have to offer.
Best Regards, Derek
Please be aware that yahoo
Please be aware that yahoo hosting does not support .htaccess files, this is not drupal friendly and very insecure, they also present other issues due to very restrictive settings on their servers.
Here's the link about .htaccess restriction:

Hello,
Thanks for addressing the new php requirements. We have some servers running 4.3.1 but we will have all of them upgraded to 4.2.2 in the next week.
We are upgrading your server now to make sure you do not have any conflicts.
Thank you,
Charles

PHP 5 & MySQL 4.1, 5
Hello Charles,
I like your unbiased feedback on dwhs. :-)
I need the latest PHP and MySQL for demonstrating their features. Do you have a server that is within three months of PHP 5 and MySQL 4.1?
What if I want MySQL 5?
I need to know when you schedule upgrades for any server that I am using so that I can upgrade my test server several weeks ahead of your upgrade. If I use a sever with the latest of everything, will I get a schedule of upgrades a month ahead? (Security patches to be applied immediately)

Hello,
I just checked and we do not have a shared server with php5 but I would think we can set one up if needed. It's an easy upgrade and safe. I think we use 4.2 to stay as compatible as possible with the majority of php scripts.
If interested let me know and I will will contact our head admin to see if we can run a custom platform. We actually do get several requests for php5 mainly for Drupal, so I would think the demand is there.
Also dedicated servers can run it for sure.
Thank you,
Charles

Thank you, I saw in the drupal installation instructions that drupal requires at least PHP version 4.3.3, and I'm glad you have upgraded to PHP version 4.4.2.
