Ok let me first say I got myself in over my head. Hopefully someone out here will be kind enough to help me out. I am not a programmer. This ia a hobby for me and I am building a new site for my community HOA. I do not know how to write any code but I can read instructions and understand the concepts of installing Drupal and modules etc. I have just about everything done on this site to the point of migrating the users to it.

I really liked the way the Advanced profile kit looked so I decided to add it to the site. I thought I followed the directions correctly and it is semi working right now. There was a theme issue that went away when I told it to not display the right column's. I use the "Marinelli" theme. Somehow the theme issue is back as the top buttons dissapear and many of the links are purple now from being selected. The wall also does not work.

When I go into pages and disable the page that made this contect visable it disables fine. Then when I click on my account nothing comes up and I cant get the original profile to work anymore. It just keep sloading and nothing loads. If I re enable advanced profile then the page will load (with Advanced profile enabled)but with the errors.

There was also a couple modules I really wanted to be part of this that do not seem to work. Birthdays cannot find the date because they are not in the normal profile field anymore.

Profile Complete Percentage does not see the fields for Advanced Profile so it has no way to tell the % complete for nudging people to do their profiles.

Hi!
I´m using APK and after some work done, it works nicely.
Please tell us what steps did you take, and what versions of APK and author_pane have you installed (because you need panels and author_pane in order for APK to work ok).
Cheers!

All the modules I downloaded in the last 2-3 days from here.

I downloaded and enabled APK

I then downloaded and installed and enabled

Author Pane
Panels
Views
CCK
Content Profile
I confirmed Link was in there
User Relationships.

All came directly from the links right from the install guide for APK that take you to the project directly.

I then did a full import of all the fields "Create user profile node type"

I set the access control and then went to pages and enables the user_view page

Could it be related to panels? Have you configured the special APK panel?
(it should be at http://www.whatever.com/admin/build/pages/edit/user_view).
Can you actually access that link?
APK uses panels to take over the profile, so it´s possible that some panels misconfiguration could do what you described.

Got the same problem, still not fixed.
I updated to panels 3, but nothing really helps. I think, if the APK is not gonna updated, it should be unpublished. Since, with every update module, connected to APK, there can be some changes in the way API is implemented.

About % complete of profile, it supports only core profile module.

APK is in use by nearly four thousand sites. Saying it should be unpublished because I haven't had time to work on it in the last couple months is a bit much, I think.

Look at http://drupal.org/project/content_complete for use with content profile.

Thanks michelle for the reply. It was expected.
Have you ever frustrated by seeing a white screen of death on your high traffic site? What ever the problem is, you try to fix it. In my case, I tried everything to fix the APK. Now, I decided to jump into the code and fix the issue, and will post a patch. And if you can no more maintain this project, will take it over too.

Why would you put a beta module live on a high traffic site without testing it first?

I have no intention of abandoning my modules so, no, you will not be taking it over.

Wow,

I used to be a sympathizer. I no longer am. You need to chill out on your responses to people.

Really?

APK simply needs to be redone from square one, into a simple, user friendly module with many options and extras one could check off if they were needed in their particular website. APK is certainly not designed for ease of use and is certainly not intended for beginners. It worked in its time as a patch for people who were more prolific with Drupal. Drupal has now received a wider, more non-programmer user base, in large part because modules have become more user friendly and as an over all platform it is excellent at what it has been designed for. I sympathize with developers who have a life outside of Drupal, however if you are going to sign up and be a developer then your commitment should be to that module and it's coherence with the current state of Drupal. Rather than cry foul and throw tantrums, these developers should seek co-maintainers (and rejoice when help is offered) so Drupal as a whole can carry on gracefully into the future.

michelle’s picture

It's open source. Feel free to spend hundreds of hours writing your own module, supporting it for free for years to come, and don't forget to smile nicely when the complaints come rolling in.

I think that is embellishing what transpired here and what you're essentially trying to do is blow on a month old spark in an effort to start a fire.

developers rejoice when code/patches/issues are worked on in a collaborative way with positive energy.

I ponder whether you are purposely ignoring the tone of anyone elses comments and focusing on Michele's.

I note that she didn't say patches weren't welcome. Providing patches, I'd figure is the best way to work toward becoming a co-maintainer, not just "stating" a take over. "Asking" or being asked to be a co maintainer because you've already provided patches would have been a far better approach.

BTW: "beautifulmind" only shows up on one issue in the queue, one month ago, and no patch was ever provided.

Michelle

That doesn't surprise me.

@VM & @Michelle
I respect and recognize your contribution to Drupal and Drupal community. Please hold on to see the patch. I'm 'still' working on it.

Well, I did quite a bit of testing before releasing beta 3 last night and didn't have a problem. Would be nice if you'd at least give a clue about this problem you found so I can fix it. I'm hoping to go to RC soon.

Me chill? You're the one that added the exclamation points. I was simply stating a fact.

And "sympathizer"? Yeah, right. Last November you showed up in my queue randomly responding to long closed issues for no reason other than to hurl abuse at me. Enough trolling already.

Michelle

1. Maybe you could be more lucky to get a proper response on APK issue queue.
2. APK have saved MANY, MANY hours of theme/programming work for many, many people (including myself), and I´m personally very grateful that this module exists and has being shared with the community.

Life is easier for us "non programmers" because of this module and its mantainer, Michelle.

So I think that yeah, saying that it should be "unpublished!" it´s a bit much, don´t you think?

Rosamunda

Thanks, Rosamunda. I do regret that I have been neglecting the queue these last few months but, after putting my site mostly on hold for 2 years to work on my modules, I decided to spend some time working on my own site. I'll get back to the modules after I've finished some critical functionality on my site to where it can coast for a bit.

Thanks Michelle for this great module. I have a similar problem about theme. When I display the my account page the colors, sizes and backgorunds of the blocks and menus are changing. But only in explorer. There is no problem in firefox and chorme just only explorer. I am using the latest verisions of all modules.

Is there any idea about this?

Rosamunda’s picture

Wich version o IE? Just IE6 or it happens on IE7/8 too?

tebdilikiyafet’s picture

Yes in all of them there is the same problem. Is there any solution for that?

I don't need much for the Advanced Profile Kit. I just want to get the friend request working. I have all the necessary modules installed in order to get this working. It seems like the tab is being run by views. I don't understand why the friends tab is showing up but there is no button to request someone as a friend. How to I get an add delete button for the friends tab?
I will try to figure out how to get screen shots up to show you what I'm talking about.

Im having the same problem, all works well (thanks Michelle) except no button shows under the friends tab to add friends, is this a permissions thing Im just missing to tick the box on?????
