You mention both e-commerce and ubercart on the project page. Is this module for either or both of e-commerce and ubercart. The reason I ask is that I just created a gateway for ubercart and am wondering if I should contribute it.

That's just a taxonomy term for the e-Commerce category, not a designation of compatibility. The module itself currently only functions as a gateway for Ubercart.

And this module is intended for the merchant's private use to process payments through ubercart, or for the website customers (which is a different service from Elavon called InternetSecure)?

Does this integration also allow management of stored credit card information using Elavon's servers for future purchases?

Those are really separate issues, so it's not best practice to re-open a closed one. This is purely for VirtualMerchant merchant provide form payments, meaning accepting credit card payments at one time through Ubercart's credit card module. That's all for now.
