I am running 4.5 and have made several modifications to it so I am hesitant to upgrade. I am looking for a solution that does exactly what user_search does for 4.5. Is there any chance of you creating a version that will work with 4.5?

I'm not going to back port it, but give it a try in 4.5, it might work.
