Just updating this section. Looks like Solr 1.5 trunk now has spartial search support http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SpatialSearch .
My time at the minute is spent in the Groovy world developing with Grails but I may pick this back up. Now we know spartial support is now in Solr trunk it's a good time to get things kicked off properly.

ayalon commentedsounds very promising! I have to investigate too in this feature.

ayalon commentedI tried the example with solr 1.5 but its not working. It seems that the function point() is missing.
Was someone able to do the search request with the example data in solr? I only get errors :-(

Macronomicus commentedSweet! ... Subscribing ... id like to follow this for sure. ...were building a real estate site and this would be a great addition to the mix.
The geospacial search is a no brainer IMO .. it simply must be in any modern real estate site.
...were saving this aspect for last and we'll see about joining in and sponsoring & helping its development when the time comes.
I was excited to see that you are already starting the process and even cooler now solr 1.5 has spatial search in the mix.
Cheers!

EricLondon commentedI have recently been working with Solr 3.1, and documented a working example (still in progress): http://thedrupalblog.com/geospatial-apache-solr-searching-drupal-6-upgra...
