I should probably have mentioned that this one is largely venting about images (oy - out of scope, but somewhat understandable - hooray Drupal 7). As venting, though, it should possibly go (not sure what the official policy is there):

i've deleted all but http://drupal.org/node/120632#comment-2491366 which has a very recent reply, so i figure i'll leave it up for a week or so before deleting.

most of that back and forth should really happen in the issue queue anyway (if for no reason other than not having all this bickering on the public facing docs) - we really should put a little note at the bottom of the content eventually that reminds people to file an issue rather than commenting for most cases!

will close this after i take care of that last comment.
