Painfully elusive problem... Warning: include_once

I'm building a small portfolio site for someone. It's in a multisite environment and uses a contrib theme that's been modified somewhat.

At some point during development (not sure after what change) the site began throwing off the below errors, below the site's footer. The site appears to operate fine despite the error.

They also appear within /admin when using Garland as the admin theme, but NOT within /admin when using RootCandy as the admin theme. Weird. RootCandy is in the same sites/domain/themes/ directory as the frontend theme (aBeesParadise_1024).

I don't see these errors on the other [multi]sites who share the same D6.14 core.

The allegedly missing core files are all present and in the right place. AFAIK my VPS host hasn't changed any PHP settings. Again, the other [multi]sites don't throw this error.

Apache logs show some requests that looks fishy to me. E.g. I've been digging for hints of a solution for several hours now.

Thanks to any and all who can offer help, before I torch the thing and start with a clean database + theme.

I had a similar problem to yours and it did not have anything to do with the files.

The problem was solved when I increased the memory for Drupal. Depending on your hosting provider, you can do this through the control panel, php.ini or httaccess file.

Check how much you have and if not enough, assign a minimum 96M, but you may need more if you are talking about multi site.

I was already at 96M and pushed it to 120M. The error remained.

FWIW This multisite shares space on a VPS with some other relatively low-traffic sites of mine.

The text of that offending error message somehow crept into the Footer field in Site Information. Crikey. Deleted it, and now the "error" is gone.

Breathe deeply. Do not slit wrists.

I think I'll take a nice peaceful walk with the dog now.

If there's anything I've learned from using Drupal in the past 8 months or so, it's that taking a few hours off when you hit a roadblock can really be a health-, relationship-, and life-saver.

There are many approaches to troubleshooting, and it's too easy to get locked into one or two. Bang bang bang with the hammer.

Wait a while, and you're in a different frame of mind.

I'm having the same issue.

Tried bumping memory in .htaccess: no success.
Checked fields in site info/; hasn't been added anywhere.

I've only noticed this happening when I have Theme Developer running, and even then only on some pages:

Run cron and check status report (you've prob done that)
run update.php
what modules failed to open? consider disabling and then reinstalling them.
check apache error log for hints.

I had a similar problem that was being caused by the Theme Developer module. Uninstalling the module got rid of the error. Of course, if you depend on that module for your work, then this doesn't really help.

To really solve it, you'd need to get your include_path variable for php in order because the system is looking for files to include and it can't find them. Changing the include_path tells the system, "if you can't find the files from here, also look for them here and here...". A quick and dirty way is to add an ini_set statement to Drupal's index.php file where all the inaccessible file paths are added.

For example, the error above can't find files in module subfolders for block, filter, system, menu etc. The include_path would need to include these so for block and filter

Windows would be something like
ini_set('include_path', '.;c:\path\to_your\drupal_folder\modules\block;c:\path\to_your\drupal_folder\modules\filter');

*NIX something like "/path1:/path2"
ini_set('include_path', '.:/path/to_your/drupal_folder/modules/block:/path/to_your/drupal_folder/modules/filter');

Again, it's not really solving the problem but this should get rid of reams of error messages in your development environment.

I was having this problem too (Drupal 7), and was also able to fix it by adding to settings.php:
ini_set('include_path', '.');

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I was having this issue awhile ago while migrating a site to another hosted server, and found that safe_mode was on, and the permissions weren't correctly set up for that. So you might want to check that in php.ini.

I had the same problem, turns out I had named my theme with the same name as a module I was developing, which in Drupal 7 is a no no.

Renaming the theme sorted the issue.
