It is problem with MN successfully build using drush make, see files used on GitHub:

BTW: not sure if this is ctools issue - same error with latest ctools head.

It seems I should use latest make files from dev preview http://managingnews.com/previews/mnbeta7preview.tar.gz

But it also fails, however using complete tarball under Aegir works without issues, so I'm closing this ticket.
