For elements that appear on all node forms, it's cumbersome to have to filter each node type separately. It would be better to be able to configure a general node form with just the elements that appear on all node forms.

Committed a simple fix. Provide a link below all node forms "Filter all node forms". This leads to a version of a node form with just the elements that appear on all node forms. These apply to all node types.
