We require the posts for Drupal Planet are marked with a specific tag (Drupal Planet), which doesn't happen with the posts in the reported feed.

jponch’s picture

Is that a new rule? We noticed that a lot of the Drupal Planet feeds aren't tagged that way and just had a Drupal tag on posts so that's what we did. Some didn't even have that it seemed.

From the words of Dave Reid:

To be added to the Planet we have a couple of requirements you'll need to meet:
1. Use a 'Drupal Planet' specific tag for your content/feed. It's too easy to get nearly off-topic posts with just a 'Drupal' tag.
2. We like to see a little more established content. Ideally we'd like to see 4-5 high-quality, relevant posts.
3. (Optional, but not at all required) Open up comments to anonymous users since often we like to continue discussions on your blog.

Sounds good. Our blog is open for anonymous comments already, so we'll submit once we have 1 or 2 more drupal related posts and have our drupal-planet tag in use. Thanks.

@sprocketjared: Yeah it's been a recent change in requirements. We're also enforcing it for any feeds currently in the Planet in before this requirement that get off topic.

@q0rban: This was still needs work. Until the issues have been addressed, the feed should not be added to the Planet. I've disabled the feed that you added. Please don't do this again until feeds get the ok. Furthermore, it was added with a refresh interval of 15 minutes, while all blogs added are given a 3 hour refresh interval.

EDIT: Sorry, it doesn't look like you added it since you don't have the permissions to do so. Please let me know who added it.

Dave,
That was my bad, I did not see this ticket. Totally understand the new rule of having a planet tag + Drupal, I like that idea and will do that for our site too. I will follow up with Sprocket when they have the Planet tag and a drupal+planet feed I will add this back.

Cool?

q0rban’s picture

Yeah, I didn't add it, I just noticed that it had been added so I closed the issue.

Dave,
I ask Sprocket to do the feed per rule #1. http://sprocketcreative.com/tags/drupal-planet/feed if we are good here I can just add them back now?

dave reid’s picture

@ericgundersen Thanks for the follow-up. Last thing left is #2 on the requirements.

jponch’s picture

Within the next couple weeks I imagine we'll have enough content there. We were extremely careful to only tag highly Drupal specific entries with the planet tag. There were other posts that are Drupal related that we did not tag for fear that they were topically regarding broader concepts of web design and development best practices that apply beyond Drupal. We'll notify you once we've got 4 posts tagged with the planet tag.

dave reid’s picture

@sprocketjared: Sounds great! Look forward to having you on the Planet.

ericgundersen’s picture

@sprocketjared, DM me when you want me to look at the content, and I will add you then.

@ericgundersen, will do. Thanks!

I came across http://sprocketcreative.com/blog in a roundabout way: I was looking at the trademark on drupal.com, saw they had an ad there, clicked it, saw something about install profiles and went OooOOooOo at http://sprocketcreative.com/blog/2010/02/02/easy-install-profiles. But I noticed this blog wasn't on Drupal Planet, which is why I didn't see it before.

It seems to me that all criteria here is met: there's a Drupal Planet-specific tag, it's filled with at least 5 posts (all of which look like good, on-topic content), and comments are turned on. Therefore, I've added this feed to the list as "Sprocket" (w/ 3 hour interval, although it defaults to 15 mins so we should probably fix that). Hope this isn't over-stepping my bounds, but I hate to see good content like this not in the faces of the community.

(Incidentally, "(Optional, but not at all required)" in the rules is redundant. ;))

Nope, I think this was ready. Thanks webchick!
