I setup an out-of-the-box installation of modest-grey50p according to the tutorial with no customizations of any kind.

When viewed in IE 8.0, the images and text are displayed with full functionality but no formatting.

When viewed in Firefox 3.6, I have full functionality, including layout but no text.

Please help.

I managed to get most of the text working in Firefox, it was a matter of totally rewrorking the preprocessor variables even though I had only used the default scripts to create the content types and view. However, some of the text is not available at all in Firefox.

IE still has no formatting.

When I look at the variables coming from template PHP, the output is very different between IE and Firefox. Here is critical example:

IE:

stdClass::__set_state(array(
'nid' => '724',
'node_title' => 'Test 1',
'node_language' => 'en',
'node_data_field_pager_item_text_field_pager_item_text_value' => 'Test 1 pager text',
'node_type' => 'ddblock_news_item',
'node_vid' => '724',
'node_data_field_pager_item_text_field_slide_text_value' => 'Test 1 slide text',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_fid' => '549',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_list' => '1',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_data' => 'a:3:{s:11:"description";s:0:"";s:3:"alt";s:0:"";s:5:"title";s:0:"";}',
'node_revisions_body' => 'Full node text for test 1.',
'node_revisions_format' => '1',
'node_created' => '1264722773',
))

Firefox:

stdClass::__set_state(array(
'nid' => '724',
'node_title' => 'Test 1',
'node_language' => 'en',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_fid' => '549',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_list' => '1',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_data' => 'a:3:{s:11:"description";s:0:"";s:3:"alt";s:0:"";s:5:"title";s:0:"";}',
'node_type' => 'ddblock_news_item',
'node_vid' => '724',
'node_revisions_body' => 'Full node text for test 1.',
'node_revisions_format' => '1',
'node_created' => '1264722773',
))

As you can see, the node_data_field_pager_item_text_field_pager_item_text_value and node_data_field_pager_item_text_field_slide_text_value variables are completely missing in Firefox, which explains why no text is displayed.

First, are you using the RC6 version or the dev version of the dynamic display block slideshow module?
DDblock themes for the RC6 version are not compatible with the dev version of the module.

The dev version has only the upright10-60 ddblock themes for this version. See download section

Maybe your IE issue is that IE does only support 32 CSS stylesheets. The ddblock stylesheet is one of the last stylesheets added and could be ignored by IE when you have more then 32 CSS Stylesheets.

Setting CSS optimalization at Administer > Site configuration > Performance will give you a solution for this issue. This is what you would do when your Drupal site is in production anyway.

What causes the different result for the drupal_set_message debug_lines, is maybe a caching issue.

Do you have a link to your Internet site

Hope this helps you further, please let me know.

stevenaburton’s picture

Wow, you are totally awesome ppblaauw; I flicked the Optimize CSS switch and it worked like a charm.

The only problem left is that the Content field values included in the source view are not available to Firefox or Chrome, which manifests as missing pager text labels. These labels are visible in IE.

Here is the URL to the prototype site: http://burtonsoftware.net/jhs/node/723

stevenaburton’s picture

I noticed that the Content field values are visible in all browsers if the user is logged on but not for anonymous users, bviously some weird permission problem.

ppblaauw’s picture

Probably you have content permissions module enabled and did not give permissions for this field.

Hope this helps you further, please let me know.

I am facing a similar problem. I cannot see the slideshow in IE8- they appear blank. The pager images are there. Firefox works fine.

I have uncommented the required in template.php for your reference:

'node_title' => 'EA CNY $8 off Promotion',
'node_data_field_pager_item_text_field_pager_item_text_value' => NULL,

'node_vid' => '661',
'node_data_field_slide_text_field_slide_text_value' => 'Get $8 off every EA game above $45. All Games, all platforms',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_fid' => '993',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_list' => '1',
'node_data_field_image_field_image_data' => 'a:3:{s:11:"description";s:0:"";s:3:"alt";s:0:"";s:5:"title";s:0:"";}',
'node_revisions_body' => '

and

#10 do you have a link to your Internet site, so I can help you better.

When you can see the ddblock working in FF the preprocess functions are not the problem.

hello, the website is www.zepygames.com

"When you can see the ddblock working in FF the preprocess functions are note the problem." - Sorry I don't get what you mean here...

ppblaauw’s picture

I see in Chrome that you have JavaScript errors at your site, in FF I don't see them.

The JavaScript errors probably stop JavaScript functions being loaded.

Hope this helps you further, please let me know.

(in the previous message note should be not, edited the post)

darrelk’s picture

You are right on this, seems to be a javascript error. I have updated views and problem still persists. Is there any simple workaround solution to this problem?

I noticed that your 'node_data_field_pager_item_text_field_pager_item_text_value' variable is null. Try providing a value.

ppblaauw’s picture

@merky84

Had a look at your site and it seems that you solved the issue.
Can you explain for other users what was the issue and how you solved it.

@stevenaburton
In this case a pager is used with only images, there is no need for a pager-item-text.

darrelk’s picture

@ppblaauw

Quite honestly, I did nothing and it fixed itself. And now, I did nothing and the issue is back again. Does changing the slideshow images, pager item text, or slide text affect anything? Because that is all I did (i think).

teh_catt’s picture

i had the same problem with the slide images not appearing in IE 7/8 and rectified it by changing "position: absolute" to "position: relative" in my css file for the class:

div.ddblock-cycle-upright40 div.slide-inner img{
position: relative;
height: 250px;
width: 440px;
}

darrelk’s picture

@teh_catt,

Did you have the same Javascript error as I have? I've tried changing the position to absolute from relative in ddblock-cycle-upright40.css but jv error is still there.

darrelk’s picture

Hi all,

I managed to find what the problem is. When I applied a twitter widget from http://twitter.com/widgets to a block on my site, I get the JV error which prevents ddblock from displaying slideshow. Everything's ok after i removed it. Anyone facing same issue as me here?

I can verify that the twitter widget is causing the error on my site.

I have a two column panel frontpage. A views display lives in each of the two columns, both have full ajax pagers turned on, showing 10 nodes per column. And I have the following code in a block that shows on the homepage.

<script src="http://widgets.twimg.com/j/2/widget.js"></script>
<script>
new TWTR.Widget({
  version: 2,
  type: 'search',
  search: 'Politics',
  interval: 6000,
  title: 'Politics',
  subject: 'Solving Problems',
  width: 200,
  height: 300,
   theme: {
   shell: {
     background: '#fff',
     color: '#000'
   },
   tweets: {
     background: '#ffffff',
     color: '#444444',
     links: '#1985b5'
   }
 },
 features: {
   scrollbar: false,
   loop: true,
   live: true,
   hashtags: true,
   timestamp: true,
   avatars: true,
   behavior: 'default'
 }
}).render().start();
</script>

Everything works fine, even in IE believe it or not, but I do get this error in IE;

"Object doesn't support this property or method"
base.js Line:69
Code: 0 Char: 5
URI: http://mysite.com/sites/all/modules/views/js/base.js?O

lamoix’s picture

For whatever it is worth, I just was having a similar issue with IE7 suddenly not working to display the Dynamic Display Block and the "Object doesn't support this property or method" error. For whatever reason, it was having trouble parsing a line in the .js file related to the DHTML Menu module. Disable the module, and poof, working IE7.
