We currently store the body of our articles in a custom CCK field... is there any way that we could modify this module so that instead of paginating the default content we can set an alternative field to paginate?

Definitely something that I want to do. It's in the D7 code base currently, but will be backported to D6.

Hello!

Unfortunately have been rather busy. This will likely be available in a D7 release first, and then backported to D6. Due to the differences in field storage it may be awhile for D6.

Pagination should definitely support cck and fields.
