Despite my unqualified liking for category module, cat_menu is proving really troublesome. Here is one more scenario in which updates to a container's fields are not reflected in the menu tree.
How to reproduce:
1.) Create a hidden container as the child of a parent container. Child container has menu items enabled.
2.) Add a few categories to the child container.
3.) Go back to the hidden container and disable its hidden attribute and also disable the menu items
4.) Change parent of the categories that were added to the hidden child container from that container to root.
5.) Menu fails to update the recent changes.
In the attached screenshot, I first created 'Images by Year' as a hidden, child container of 'Images' and added the categories '2006-2007' and '2005-2006'. I then went back and changed its title to 'Years', its hidden attribute to 'disabled' and disabled the menu items setting originally set to enabled. Further, I changed the parent of the two year categories from the child container to root and saved the changes. No luck - the menu tree fails to show the changes. Worse, out of nowhere, it shows the original name of the child container ('Images by year') as a menu link.

venkat-rk commentedEven when the changed container form is edited, the 'menu settings' seem to retain the original name and position of the child container.

JirkaRybka commentedCategory menu was quite buggy on 5.x and below, but now 4.7.x is not supported anymore, making this issue obsolete. Closing.
