Been using Admin 1 for a while, loved it. This new version seems counterintuitive, but thats just my frustration speaking.
I install the module as well as two themes, tao and rubik.
First I just simply put them both in /sites/all/themes as separate folders.
When I go to the admin I get the Rubik theme, and a wrench tool in the left top corner, which I cannot click on. The theme looks like the default drupal theme with pretty icons. Not functional at all.
Thinking I didn't install the subtheme right, I put Rubik inside the Tao folder.
Same thing, no side toolbar.
This is a brand new drupal 6.15 install with views/cck installed, nothing more.
Anyone have any suggestions?

You're probably better off posting your question on to the issue queue of that particular module.
Do you have javascript
Do you have javascript disabled? It's required to open up the sidebar when you click on the top corner icon.

Hi Noisebug,
Rubik is not supposed to be INSIDE Tao, but, at the same level (/sites/all/themes/).
I'm also new to Drupal and was a bit confused about themes a few minutes/hours ago
finding which way to have Rubik on the Admin and my own theme for everything else
and i found I could set the admin theme in Administration Tools > Administration Theme (tab on the right)
to "override" the default theme.
Maybe it can help other Drupal newbies.
Btw I was going to use Zen, described as the best base theme but change my mind to Tao,
as their themes really look sharp.
