In this issue: #222156: allow users to opt in to constant contact list on site registration for the old Drupal 5 version, there was talk of Role-based subscription, simply to make automating subscriptions easier (by having a “Subscriber” Role). This was apparently abandoned for Drupal 6.

This would be a very desirable feature, and not just for having a “Subscriber” Role. What about for a site that allows anyone to Register as a site user for free, but requires dues or other payment to become an actual Member of the organization (which could be further facilitated using UberCart or LM PayPal Pay for Role)? And suppose they have a Board or some such?

What if they want to have a General-Interest Newsletter available to everyone, a Members-Only Newsletter, and a Board-Only Newsletter? We should be able to auto-subscribe by Roles on a per-Newsletter basis, and also (independently) outright lock people out of even seeing that certain Newsletters exist if they’re not members of those Roles, etc.

The competing MailChimp module has had at least some of this all along. Why not Constant Contact?

I don't use the constant contact module myself and I'm not being paid by constant contact for developing this module but will see what I can do. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm looking for this functionality - has any progress been made on this, or can somebody point me in the right direction? My site is selling newsletter subscriptions, and I'm using roles to manage site and newsletter access.

@#3 miss-susan, if you’re not locked into Constant Contact, you could try MailChimp instead. The MailChimp module for Drupal has this functionality built-in, and has had it for some time now. Also, MailChimp is free for many non-profit or smaller organizations.

Already made the jump over there :-) They're cheaper and their admin GUI is so much funner than CC's!
