This is happening with my development site on a Mac OS X 10.4 local server. When I log in as User 1, everything looks OK, but when I login with my test authenticated user account, the original setup page shows up first thing. In fact, the same thing happens, only worse, when I enable "access content" in the node module for the anonymous user: the setup page appears as the front door of the login page.
I hardly want newcomers to CREATE THE FIRST ACCOUNT and/or CONFIGURE THE WEBSITE as soon as they log in.
I've already created a front page using the front_page module, but can't seem to get it to take -- seems the only way I can keep anonymous users from seeing the setup page is to disable "access content" in the node module. But then there appears the off-putting generic ACCESS DENIED page, instead of the welcoming page I created.
I know I'm missing something, and would appreciate somebody telling me what it is.
Thanks!

Did you set front_page as
Did you set front_page as your front page in admin/settings?
-
The other way is to create a page and make sure "promote to front page" is checked in the settings - front_page will override that once it works though.
Great! now I can't get into the site!
This is not helpful! I set front_page as my front page in admin/settings, logged out to see what happened -- got the "access denied" page, then when I tried to log back in as user1 I keep getting "access denied". I tried to request a new password, but nothing has come back, even though I'm sure I set the address correctly.
Now what's happening?

That will give you the information you need in order to log in as administrator.
I got in -- had to disable front_page module
Turned out not to be a password issue -- I actually found my answer in an apparently unrelated post in the Troubleshooting FAQ: Help! I enabled a buggy module and now I can't disable it!.
I'm not sure how I configured front_page wrong in the first place, but disabling it from the command line in the MySQL database at least got me back into the site as admin, so now I can fix it!
Thanks!
U acn get it back
u just type your url and and /?q=user to that after that u can set u r account settings.
More specifically...
Administer->Settings->General Settings
then the front page option appears near the bottom of that frameset (the "General Settings" frameset).
