I have a content type which can NOT be created by an anonymous user, permissions are correctly set to only allow authenticated users to add content.
However a node has just been created on my site and the author is anonymous, anyone any ideas how this happened???

by the way, this isnt spam or malicious, it's content that has been added in the proper manner and the person that added it is following the rules of the site, it's just that they have added it as an anonymous visitor which should not be possible.

I think I found the reason
I think I found the reason why you have nodes created by anonymous users.
I thought someone was posting nodes without permission.. but what really happened was that a user or robot has registered a user account and then created content.
I'm constantly looking the user list for strange users... and I have deleted the suspicious users.
In the content list all the nodes created by a deleted user now show that it was an anonymous user!
