Can anyone explain how to replace the sidebar menus in the Garland theme with menu boxes like those used in the Pixture or Pixture Reloaded or even this theme (Blue Breeze)?

I think we're talking about modifying how the theme "blocks" are generated, however, since I'm a Drupal theme "newbie" I'm just speculating.

Anyway, I prefer the blocks with the outline, rounded corners, color fill and title bar.

Is this simply a matter of cutting and pasting part of the Pixture css into Garland? What width should the blocks be? To fit into the Garland sidebars, for example.

BTW, I don't want to do anything to upset the integrity of the fluid width.

Any theme experts out there? Your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

By manipulating the CSS you can style the blocks any way you wish. That's where I'd start.

Yes, I see some things in the css that I can try. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I've been looking at different Drupal themes and beginning to see some similarities. For example, Waffles is the same as Acquia Marina with a different color scheme. Spread Fire Fox looks the same as Blue Marine only worse. For that matter Acquia Marina in fluid width looks to have the same structure as Garland.

It appears there are a few core themes and all others just a variation.

In my opinion, the Garland theme is the best followed by Blue Marine. To be honest, I'm not too crazy about the other Drupal themes I've seen so far.

So, my plans will be to stick with the Garland theme for now and try to customize a bit. I don't want to tinker too much, because, its obvious to me countless hours must have been put in to develop it. It's what sold me on choosing Drupal over Joomla. Just a little tweaking to distinguish the site from others.
