Finding my way through the many contrib modules

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to Drupal and I must say: it's a beast! So far, I'm really enthusiastic about this incredibly complete framework. However, I'm finding it hard to find my way through the thousands of contributed modules. So, is anybody aware of any facility (besides the search engine and the few doc pages giving some module comparisons) that gives a complete and general view of all available modules and allows selection of subsets to make comparisons based on features and other criteria?
