Any chance of getting this to work on 4.7? I know it'd be really useful for goofiness.org.

If you write it, probably. However, I would rather advise against it, due to the state the code is in.
I suggest you check whether project.module or casetracker.module can suit your needs, because helpdesk.module is not ready to be used, be it for 4.6 or 4.7, and needs quite a bit of work before being ready.
