Hi all,
I'm pretty sure due to other forum posts I have read this is a very old problem, but I haven't seen anything approaching a definitive solution (and I think a lot of the work is being backported to and from Drupal 7 too).
I have recently started looking after a very large Drupal 6 site with a lot of traffic, and every time you clear the cache it takes around 5 minutes and usually crashes Apache, as I know has happened to other people (and it's something to do with the way the menu rebuild works, though I haven't fully understood what exactly). Quite a few of the posts I have been reading on this topic has been fairly old so I was just wondering if there has been any recent progress on this topic and if there is anything I can do to solve the problem. We're currently in the middle of implementing theme changes so as you can appreciate the cache needs to be cleared quite often, but repeatedly bringing the site down is not something I really want to do.
Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
