Help!

I'm new to Drupal, but a friend has been trying to persuade me to give it a go for ages. I am off work this week so thought I might give it a go.

So far, I have been working on it for 4 hours and can't get past the installation screen "Database Configuration".

When I submit the details I move on to a page with 'Home' at the top. Three stages on the left are ticked (Choose Language, Verify Requirements, Set Up Database), Install Site is highlighted as the current page with Configure Site and Finished yet to go.

However, this Home page has completely blank content and if I navigate away from the site and back, I get the message "This Web Page cannot be found."

I have a MySQL set up and my hosting company has verified it is working fine. The db is funkymin_wl and the username is the same (I won't share the password for obvious reasons). I am definitely typing it all in correctly.

I have to say that the documentation is extremely long winded and very non-user-friendly so I may have done something wrong - but I did follow an online video of someone setting it up and I did everything identical as the guy on screen - and I got the error when he got the next page.

ANy suggestions would be most appreciated.

BTW - I have made sure that I created a settings.php and uploaded both settings and default.settings.

So it is not being caused by the missing file, as some of the other problems encountered by other users were.
