I think this is a great idea. I have not yet toyed with this on a 4.6 install (as I dont have one I can use), but if you get this onto 4.7 code, I will test it out for you. (It needs to run on MySQL though.)

We will begin the conversion to 4.7 for this module shortly. I will have to create the mysql DB on my own time, but that should be very difficult.

My attempt at 4.7 support and MySQL Support
works for me (had to change pid to parentid beacuse of problems wile updating nodes
but other than that it was fairly straight-forward
