symptom:
all js expanding node options become inactive, dimmed, no [+] icon to click on anymore
on node>edit
i.e -Input format, Access, Authoring information, Publishing options
+
custom block options -that fold out HTML, PHP input etc.
i.e -Input format, Access

that is including the expanding update.php - i can access but expanding the -versions which is the same function as above does not work anymore

basically all over the site admin those js expanding options does not work anymore
Drupal 4.72
I checked with all browsers (on mac) Safari, Firefox, Flock all js turned ON -no avail
not sure if any of the modules can cause the problem, I disabled all non default modules, but the problem still remain

Anyone experienced the same problem? any idea what could be the cause?

Did you just enable a module prior to noticing the symptom? I tried to install a module - can't remember which one it was at the moment, but immediately resulted in the same problem. Removing it fixed it. taxonomy_ticker I think was the module.

thanks lunas.. spot on -the culprid is taxonomy_ticker module..
I disabled (deleting from the server) all modules and the symptom is gone but it was difficult the eliminate which -last module... so i put all of them back -taxonomy_ticker as you indicate your experience and the symptom is does NOT occur anymore..

I put the issue on the module, to indicate the module developer and other user might experience the same problem

I submitted the issue to the taxonomy ticker module and I presume its a conflict with the module and the drupal.js -that is the default system js handles the feature of expanded options -its my assumption
