The link at http://drupal.org/node/49976 which is labeled "Try out a demonstration" actually links to: http://category.greenash.net.au/demosite/

Which is the demo site for the category module.

Am I just misunderstanding and that site contains the demo for activeselect, too?

The link is correct. The category module demo site has activeselect installed. When activeselect is installed with category, it turns some category selection and parent selection lists into activeselects. See using activeselect with category for details on how this works.

It seems that sending somebody to a demonstration site that requires a login in order to obtain rights necessary to see a demo, where that page doesn't even have a login box is not the kindest thing to do. In an attempt to save somebody else the time I spent actually finding the demo itself, I suggest that the langauge on the page be expanded to include, at the very least something like:

Try out a demonstraton (<a href="http://category.greenash.net.au/demosite/">log in required</a>))

better:

Try out a demonstration (<a href="http://category.greenash.net.au/demosite/">log in required</a>) - read this page: <a href="http://category.greenash.net.au/node/120">first</a>)

best (don't even send them to the demosite page):

Try out a demonstration (<a href="http://category.greenash.net.au/node/120">log in required</a> See <a href="http://category.greenash.net.au/demo">DEMO</a>)
