I am wondering if there is a way to set up imagecache so that it will recognize if the uploaded image is a horizontal image or a vertical image and will apply a different preset depending on which it is. Does anyone know a way to do this? I am working on an artist site and some of the uploads are vertical and some are horizontal and one preset doesnt work well.

See Imagecache Actions, it includes an action that will let you specify one action for horizontal images, another for vertical images.

This isnt working properly. I set up a preset for Horz and a preset for Vert using the scale action. These work fine. I then added a new preset with just the aspect switcher action to set the hort and vert. However all that is produced is a small image around 100 by 100. It is like it is scaling or resizing the image even more.

anyone else have this problem.

I am having the same issue. It looks like it's resizing it even more than the horiz. & vert. presets specified.

I found this post. http://drupal.org/node/626168. Apparently it's fixed in -dev 2.0 but volatile.
