I've just upgraded my mirrored test 4.6 site to 4.7, so I can work on it without breaking the production site.
However, as it's using Private file method, it's still using the the Private files from the production site, and when I attempt to change this in the Test site's settings page, it breaks every audio/image file on the Test site.
(Just to clarify - if I leave the 4.7 Test Site using the original Private files, the images etc are working)
Once changed to a different Private path however, it is putting several extra slashes in the path to the files, and still referencing the old Private files directory as PART of the new path, although the path to the files is very obviously broken.
Just wondered how I can change the path to the files, in order to COMPLETELY seperate the Test site from the Production site, so as to avoid accidentally altering production files....

I too
am curious about how to do this
Anyone?
Can anyone help us on this? I'm sure changing the private file path is something others must have had to do?
What to do if you change private file path after the fact?
Well actually, not interested because I went and changed the file path. Originally, I had left the file path "files" under the drupal directory although when I selected private downloads I now have the following path:
domain.com/system/files/doc.xls
this path doesn't allow me to download the file, it starts to open but then I get the error that the file can't be found. So I tried uploading a new file and changed my private file directory above the root to d:\www\public_html\files
but even though drupal uploads the file to the right directory, when I try to view them they can't be found.
I really don't want to have to redo the thing. I'm just wondering how you can get drupal to recognize the new location or is it set now? I know there were dire warnings about changing the private files directory but I know I'm not the only one.
