I'd like a button to click that adds the tex tags into the text where the cursor is, and which is compatible with Tinymce. This exists in MediaWiki which uses a simple editor at the top of the screen.

I cannot do this because i'm not responsible for Tinymce.

I also cannot understand the request, because there are many different math environments within LaTeX and DruTeX.

The most standard-one is the inline math environment, like $x^2$. The dollars are so easy and fast to type, that you won't need a button for this.
