Hi Paul! I haven't committed anything I'm working on for 2.x yet, but it's an attempt to move most of the region management to the actual region itself. So, dragging of blocks within a region, nodeblock create form right on the block*, that sort of thing. It may have less options than the current region manager to start with, so hopefully that won't be a bad thing. I would definitely love some testing, and I'll let you know once I'm at that point. :)
