Senior Developer, NowPublic.com

Description:
Senior developers are responsible for participating in the design, development, implementation, testing, quality assurance, and maintenance of all layers and aspects of our products and systems. This position has significant hands-on coding responsibilities, as well as leadership responsibilities, and requires a strong background in computer science and web development with knowledge of the full software development life cycle.

Responsibilities:
• Help collaborate on and develop comprehensive functional specifications and work estimates based on these specifications.
• Work with the development and product teams to design, develop and test applications according to specifications.
• Contribute creative ideas to the product development pipeline.
• Assist system administration team in the installation and implementation of servers and in systems planning, monitoring, and support.
• Support and troubleshoot systems as required, optimizing performance, resolving production problems, and providing timely status updates.
• Help develop and maintain coding standards and best practices, and provide suggestions for application and process improvement.
• Help build a strong and effective development group and mentor development resources by setting the example for all development resources to follow and by performing code reviews to ensure best practices are met, coding standards are followed, and that the teams’ code is efficient and clean.

Experience:
• This position requires strong problem-solving skills and a strong working knowledge of web technologies, preferably web 2.0-type applications.
• Experience building highly scalable / performance optimized code a strong plus.

Product Manager, NowPublic.com

Description:
Product Managers are responsible for managing the development, rollout, and maintenance of products and feature sets. This is a position that combines project management and organizational skills with strong creative problem-solving abilities and strong creative product development skills. There are four major Product groupings: the destination web site, NowPublic.com which we are redesigning and improving over time in increments, a "news player" or widget - that will allow individuals to syndicate our content on their sites, a mobile component that will enable people to do real-time dispatching of our members and allow our members to better interact with our systems via mobile devices, and tools or plug-ins (i.e. FireFox extensions, iPhoto Integration, WordPress plugins, etc.).

Responsibilities:
• Creating, executing, launching and managing new products.
• Managing project schedules for the technology team, coordinating development resources, and ensuring bug free products.
• Contributing creative ideas to the product development pipeline.
• Managing products and features on an ongoing basis.
• Reviewing new web technologies and best practices finding ways to use them to enhance NowPublic.

Experience:
• Strong product development and management experience, preferably in an online community setting.
• Strong project management skills and experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Strong working knowledge of web technology, preferably web 2.0-type applications.
• Ability to work closely as part of a team but also to make independent decisions to keep the product pipeline moving.
