Hi,
I'm looking at various CMS platforms right now. I know what type of look I want for our site, similar to this; http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/

Is this possible with drupal?

thanks,
Lisa

It may help if you actually list the features you are seeking. But giving a brief look, I would say yes, Drupal can do that.

thanks Brenda, that's a good point, well like it shows on there, being able to implement polls, images, flash, articles, puzzles, subscription based articles, some available to members only, some public, etc. I've been reading through the forums and I'm fairly sure the features can be done, I guess it was more from a design perspective wondering if it can be done? I want to be able to have a fairly similar design and that's what I'm still trying to find out about.

thanks,
Lisa

Where I say yes, it's a feature i've used, tested, gotten used to quirks, etc. and know for sure that it exists for drupal.

- polls - yes (built into core)

- images - yes (built into core, but gallery2 module is fantastic for images)

- flash - don't know

- articles - yes (built into core plus some other great modules for additional functionality like building your own content types via CCK module)

- puzzles - i don't know

- subscription-based articles - yes (through permissions built into core and a couple different modules available that i can't remember the names right now)

- some available to members only - yes (premium module)

any other questions, just ask

- Jason

As mentioned above, most of the stuff will be either available out of the box or through existing contributed modules. You might need some extra development, since from the sound of it you want a complex site and they usually require some kind of customization.

I definitely think all the features you need are available, pretty much out of the box add-on modules. A Drupal site can look like ANYTHING. That site you listed is a 3 column site which is pretty easy to do with drupal and will mostly require some familiarity with CSS if you edit an existing template. To give you an example of some sites I have recently been working on that are Drupal and do not look like your average default Drupal site, take a look at:

http://www.euramco.lu/euramco

and

http://www.notarypages.com (not fully functional)

Hope that helps.

Brenda, that's great news about the design flexibility. Your sites look great. I spent some time looking at the drupalsites website and can see the room for flexibility. I'm a web designer mostly and I'm comfortable with CSS so that's all a good sign. It's the php end of things that I'm only somewhat comfortable with. I've worked with zencart and phpboard so I do have some concept of it. Just never at this level. I've got someone working with me on the php customization for me but I'm responsible for the design end of things. I suspect we're going to be pushing drupal to it's limits with our site. I'll let everyone know how it develops and maybe our programmer will be willing to share his php modifications with the site after we're done.

Thanks!
Lisa
