Need an option to use node type templates for tweetmeme widget placement.

Meaning... there needs to be a way to turn it on for a node type, but allow showing it by printing the variable manually.

I suggest a simple solution is to place it in the CCK "Display Fields" area. Then a person can exclude it from display, but still have the variable to place in the template.

I don't know about everyone else, but almost every node type I create ends up needing a custom node template :)
