avpadernoAre there upper case characters, in the email address? I recall those characters create problems; there is a report about that, but I cannot find it right now.
jmroth commentedThere's actually a plus sign (+) in the address (in the user part)
avpadernoSee #407076: Capital letters in email field on d.o user profile prevent newsletter checkboxes from holding their settings.
Probably the problem is with the in your email address. Did you try using a different email address?
paulrooney commentedMy email address does not contain any special characters.
I go to "My newsletters"
http://drupal.org/user/[uid]/edit/newsletter
I check the boxes for "Drupal newsletter" and "Security announcements".
The information messages appear:
"[email] subscribed to Drupal newsletter."
"[email] subscribed to Security announcements."
In the "Newsletter subscriptions" fieldset, the "Drupal newsletter" checkbox is checked, but the "Security announcements" is unchecked.

sfbob commentedSimilar problem
Went to change my password, password change accepted with a notice I had been unsubscribed from the Maintainer news.
Drupal Newsletter was checked.
Security Newsletter was not checked.
Maintainer news was not checked and could not be checked, there was an note below explaining why.
I checked Security Announcements, clicked on save.
Return page had green section with green checkmark saying and message
(firstname-lastname@example.com was my email address, it contains a dash) but in the form below Security Announcements was not checked.

sfbob commentedupdate:
"Security Announcements" checkbox is still not checked.
I received 4 emails today from security-news@drupal.org with security announcements.

gregglesI think the problem is that there is no (easy) way for Drupal to poll mailman to find out if a user is actually subscribed.
Maybe we could change the description from its current value: "A low volume mailing list where all security issues affecting Drupal and Drupal contributed modules are publically announced." To something that mentions this deficiency: "A low volume mailing list where all security issues affecting Drupal and Drupal contributed modules are publically announced. Use the unsubscribe page to unsubscribe. Note that you can be subscribed by checking this box, but drupal.org doesn't know if you've unsubscribed. If you are not receiving mails then check the box to re-subscribe."
It's a mouthful, so any suggestions for shortening it are very welcome.

gregglesKilles and I spent some time trying to make this work by updating the password in settings.php, but it still doesn't work.
I'm inclined to go for the solution in #8, but want to wait for other ideas or troubleshooting.

avpadernoIf that page cannot report when a user is subscribed to that mailing list, why is that option available in that page? It would make more sense if that page redirected the user to the page where s/he can really subscribe/unsubscribe to the mailing list.
avpadernoIf I recall correctly, the problem with that checkbox is that it is disabled, and checked. As far as I recall, that caused the checkbox to be unchecked every time the form was saved.
I would change that page to a page showing the newsletters to which the user subscribed, but if the page is not able to give the correct information, then it is probably better to remove it, or redirect the users to the page that does the RealThing™.

gregglesWe got another report #1762616: Security notifications.
Anyone want to work on this or can we just remove this functionality and direct people to http://lists.drupal.org/mailman/listinfo/security-news
Comment #13
xurizaemonCaught me out today. Perhaps grouping it separately would help to indicate the different behaviour?
ianthomas_ukI was directed to this checkbox from the text at the top right of the security announcements page http://drupal.org/security and I already thought the instructions were poor given that they asked you to perform several steps rather than just clicking a link. IMO it would be much better if that page just linked straight to http://lists.drupal.org/mailman/listinfo/security-news
Regarding the My newsletters functionality itself, my preference would again be just a link to the mailman page, or instructions on using email to subscribe.

rteijeiro commentedHi.
I have checked all newsletter checkboxes but the "Security newsletter" appears unchecked when I refresh the page. The other checkboxes are ok.
Mi email name has a . (dot) char.
Hope it helps.

gregglesMarked #1868458: Security Mailing List box not showing as checked as a duplicate. Re-titling for what I think we should do.
I plan to do this if nobody objects in the next 3 weeks.
avpadernoI think it makes more sense, as the checkbox we are using keeps to be shown as unchecked, and it doesn't really change the status of the subscription.
StephenOTT commentedhaving the same problem.

danielphenry commentedEven after filling out the form at: http://lists.drupal.org/mailman/listinfo/security-news I still do not receive security announcements. Any progress on this item?
greggles@danielson317 - try the setting on your accoutn page? killes tried fixing the password one more time and it seems to me to work.
danielphenry commentedThe account page seems to have done it. I just got my first security notice. Thanks greggles.
