original live node displayed (instead of new revision) after editing it

Go to any live page, click "edit", click "save". Then, I see the "old", original, live page and not the revision I just created, plus the message "Your content has been saved as a pending version. Click *here* to view the live version.", where "here" links to the URL of the currently viewd page. The newly created revision is there, so it's probably just the wrong content being displayed after submission.
