Greetings,
Linking exchange - is a usual thing when making SEO. You always need to check whether your partner didn't remove your link from his Links page. In order not to perform such operation manually I wonder, is there any solution in Drupal which will do it automatically ?
My vision for this module is the following:
1. Create a new node type "link" with necessary fields using any content enging (Flexinode, CCK). Each link will represent a link to a partner's page with all necessary info - description , logo, URL, title, etc. One of the field will be Reciprocal URL - an URL of the partern's page where our link should be.
2. This module will do 2 main things:
- displays a list of URLs using node_list and pager, outputs a block, etc. (can be implemented with Views module)
- automatically check for presence of all reciprocal links and outputs a report if any links were removed from partenrs' pages.
What do you think about such thing ? I didn't find anything in Drupal and if I'm right I can develop this module ... I still hope there is an existing solution ...
Thank you.

I would like to add that this solution differs from janode.module because janode checks MY urls to find unexisting pages and this new solution will check other sites to check existence of my URLs ...

Active way
You might have a look at weblinks module or Links Package module (DEV) for creating and managing weblinks in your Drupal site.
There is also a passive way of your idea: You could use Drupal's watchdog facilities to keep track of some specific incoming referrers. IMHO, in particular for larger community websites an active verification of hundreds of backlinks on third party webpages would be too expensive.
If you will develop a new module I would suggest you to include only such functionality which is not currently provided by another module (weblinks/links package).

I think is better to check
I think is better to check link manually, how many backlinks you want to have ? as google penalise farm backlinks, its not good to have a lot of backlinks for non related sites, better to have few and good backlinks

Okay, but in any case I will
Okay,
but in any case I will need to perform this check constantly (for instance, once per 1-2 days). Manual checking seems to be not a good solution.
And the second problem - I need to remember where my partner stores my link (on what page of his site). In my approach you can at least store the URL of the partner's page with my link which helps me to find it quickly.
What node engine is used in Weburl or Links Package (CCK, flexinode) or they created content type themselves ?

Not quite
Verification of hundreds links can be performed on cron. Usually, you don't need hundreds of links when spreading your site. 50-100 links with good resources are enough to rise page rank. And this list will not grow in the future or grow very slowly. I think that this feature can be controlled from settings page - admin will specify whether he wants to perform such kind of validation or not.

extend Links Package
I would recommend that whatever you do, you build it on top of the Links Package. I would very much like to see a single links API become the standard, with other links tools built on top of it and I think the Links Package is a good start in that direction.
Completely agree !!! I also
Completely agree !!! I also think this package (and all other modules too) have to use CCK as an engine to create necessary content types. This is a good approach because it gives an ability for developers to flexibly extend content types fields ...

Not yet, because link package authors told me to code everything based upon their package (API) and I didn't have a chance to look at the package yet. I will do it shortly, because I'm about to start the project where it will be extremely important.

This would be interesting
I'm new to Drupal but not link exchanges and while community sites may not need good link exchange modules I've found that it can be effective for commercial sites. I can't offer much in the way of coding but if I could make a few suggestions for the module you could perhaps make a few suggestions in how I could help.
BTW - My wife is from a little town called Govtnevoe in Bolgradskiy
Nice to meet you :)
Nice to meet you :)
I think, first of all we need to download this Link Package from here http://drupal.org/project/links and to understand what exactly it can and what API provides.
I propose you to spend some time with it and then we can discuss what exactly should be developed upon its basis.

Reciprocal linking, link exchange page
Hi,
I am very much interested in reciprocal linking module and a link exchange page in which people can place their suggested links.
The page should have the possibility to get the categories from the taxonomy, like:
Country of link
Region of link
City of link (
all those fields from the category module installed taxonomy shown).
Than the link itself. with http://
Under it the reciprocal link exchange possibility.
Have somebody build this functionality yet?
Thanks in advance,
greetings,
Martijn
I'm also interested but have
I'm also interested but have no time right now to do it.
I will be studying 3-d party link exchange components to find out what exactly should be done.

incorporate with free online tool
Hi, I just created Link Exchange Checker, a free online tool to check the honesty of your link exchange partners, and perhaps I could set up a system to incorporate it with Drupal, automating some process. For example, one feature I wanted to develop is where you could insert a code/script on your pages which will automatically remove a link if your partner is found not to comply, or insert a link when you add it to this system. Manually removing or adding links in itself is a time consuming factor.
Hi, Yes incorporate it with
Hi,
Yes incorporate it with drupal please! It would be great if you could make this completely open source so it can be branch dependend integrated!
